Write the conversation
Pick an app, type the messages, set who sent what and when. Everything is edited directly in the phone preview — the same editor that makes the screenshots.
Open Export as video
The film icon in the export rail. Switch on whether they type, whether YOU type into the composer, and whether each message walks its delivery states — then set speed and frame rate.
Render the preview
One still is captured per moment in the conversation, then played back on a canvas. You watch the finished timing before you commit to a file.

Why it doesn’t look like a slideshow
Pauses come from the words
A three-word reply lands almost immediately; a long one sits there long enough to read. Every gap is derived from the message it belongs to, rather than a fixed interval that makes every conversation feel identical.
Both sides type, not just theirs
Their messages get the app's own typing indicator — in the header for WhatsApp and Telegram, as bubble dots for iMessage. Yours fill the composer letter by letter first, and the mic button turns into the send arrow exactly as it does on a real phone. A conversation where only one side visibly types looks half-alive.
Messages send, they don't appear
Every outgoing message walks the ladder its app really uses: a clock while it leaves the phone, then a tick, then two, then blue. Telegram gets it right too — it has no delivered state at all, so one check means sent and two means read. Using the wrong ladder is an instant tell to anyone who uses the app.
Bubbles ease in
Each new message cross-fades over the previous frame rather than snapping into place, which is the difference between something that reads as a recording and something that reads as a series of screenshots.
It's the real interface
The video is rendered from the same skins as the screenshots, so the wallpaper, receipts, header and composer are all exactly what the app draws. Nothing is redrawn or approximated for video.

Questions about chat videos
- What format does it export?
- MP4 where your browser can encode it — Chrome, Edge and Safari 16 and later all can — and WebM otherwise, which Firefox uses. Both import into every mainstream video editor, and both upload directly to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
- Is there a watermark?
- On free downloads, yes — and on video as well as PNG since the label reached the video pipeline. A free clip carries a small SIMULATED · socialmock.com mark in the corner of every frame. You can see exactly where it lands before you commit: the preview is drawn by the same code that feeds the encoder, so what you watch is what you get. Pro removes it. There is also an optional “Simulated” label you can switch on yourself at any tier, worth using if a viewer might mistake the clip for a real screen recording.
- Does it upload my conversation anywhere?
- No. The whole thing is rendered and encoded in your browser using the canvas and MediaRecorder APIs. Nothing you type is sent to a server, and no video file leaves your device unless you share it yourself.
- How long can the video be?
- As long as the conversation. Length comes from the number of messages and how long each one is, since reading time is calculated per message. A twenty-message thread lands around a minute at normal speed.
- Why does it ask me to keep the tab in front?
- Browsers stop painting and stop firing animation frames in a background tab, and both the capture and the recording depend on the page actually drawing. Leave the tab visible while it renders — it only takes a few seconds.
- Can I control the typing speed?
- Yes. Typing can be switched off for their side, your side or both, and a speed control plays the whole conversation slower or faster. Individual pauses are derived from message length, so a long message naturally sits on screen longer.
- What happens to photos and voice notes?
- A photo you send blurs behind an upload ring until it lands, the way a real picture does while it is still going out. A voice note plays: the waveform fills across the bubble and the play button becomes a pause. Both are automatic — there is nothing to set up.
- Does the video have sound?
- Only if you add it. You can upload a background track and it is recorded into the clip, looping if the video runs longer than the audio. What you will not find is message sounds: the send and receive tones you are thinking of are copyrighted works belonging to Apple, Meta and the rest, so shipping them would not be legal and we have not. Use audio you have the rights to.
- Does it work on a phone?
- It works in mobile Chrome and in Safari 16 and later. Rendering is more demanding than a screenshot, so a desktop browser is faster for a long conversation, but there is nothing to install either way.
Use these responsibly
A video can be mistaken for a genuine recording even more easily than a still image, so label it clearly. Everything made here is simulated. Do not use a clip to impersonate anyone, pass it off as a genuine screen recording, or present it as evidence in any legal, workplace or academic matter — see our Acceptable Use policy. If you are publishing somewhere a viewer might take it at face value, switch on the “Simulated” label first.
