Fake Gmail & email screenshot generator

Build a Gmail screenshot with the chrome that identifies it — the toolbar across the top, the Inbox chip and the star on the subject line, the caret after “to me”, and Reply / Reply all / Forward as pills rather than icons.

How to make a Gmail mockup

  1. Start from an example

The three above are what people build: an invoice-fraud email with the tells named in the reply, an offer letter with the salary and the attachment, and a subscription cancelled before it renews.

  2. Fill in the envelope

Sender name and sender address separately, the recipient, the date, and any labels. The gap between the name and the address is where phishing lives, so it is worth setting deliberately.

  3. Write the thread

Each message is one email. Set who sent it and when. Line breaks hold, so a paragraphed message stays paragraphed.

  4. Add the star and attachments

Star it if the scene needs it, and add attachments with a filename and a size. An attachment row buys more realism than another paragraph of body text.

  5. Export

PNG at 1× free, up to 3× on Pro, the whole thread or one screen, with or without the phone frame.

How the Gmail interface is put together

Our Gmail skin is rebuilt from the real interface in code rather than traced from a screenshot, so the details that make it recognisable survive at export resolution. Here is what those details actually are.

Gmail is the only one with a top toolbar

Back arrow, archive, bin, mark-unread and an overflow, all across the top of the screen. Apple Mail puts its actions in a bottom bar and Outlook puts them under the message. If your mockup has icons along the top, it is Gmail; if it does not, it is not.

The label chip and the star

The subject line carries an Inbox chip beside it and a star at the right-hand end. Those two things together are the most Gmail detail on the screen, and they are what most fakes leave out because they are small.

“to me” has a caret

Gmail puts a small dropdown arrow after the recipient line — the expander for the full to/cc list. It is two pixels of interface and it is the kind of thing people register without noticing.

Reply, Reply all and Forward are pills

Three outlined pill buttons under the message, side by side. Not icons, not a bottom bar, not text links. Getting the action row wrong is the fastest way to make a Gmail screenshot read as a different client in Gmail's colours.

Red is only for the bin

Google's red appears on one icon. The interactive accent throughout is blue. A Gmail mockup washed in red looks like the logo rather than the product.

The address is its own field

Display name and email address are set separately, which is what lets you show a lookalike domain — the single most useful thing a Gmail mockup can demonstrate, and the reason this generator is worth having for security training.

Questions about Gmail mockups

Can I add labels?
Yes — Inbox, Important, Promotions or anything you type. They render as Gmail's chips beside the subject. Clients without labels ignore the field rather than inventing something for it.
Can I star the email?
Yes, it is a switch in the Envelope section. The star sits at the right of the subject line where Gmail puts it.
Is this good for phishing training?
It is the best use for it. The display name and the address are separate fields, so you can put “Halden Studio Accounts” over “accounts@halden-studio.co” and let people find the missing character themselves — which is far safer than pointing trainees at a live phishing email.
Can I write a whole thread?
Yes. Each message is one email with its own timestamp, and yours render as replies you sent. The invoice-fraud example above uses that to put the three tells in a reply rather than in a caption.
Can I fake an email from Google, or from a real company?
No, and our terms prohibit it. Attributing an invented email to a real company is impersonation, and an email screenshot is the format people are most likely to believe without checking. Every example here uses invented companies.
Does it do the desktop Gmail or the app?
The mobile app. Every skin here renders a phone screen, which is what a screenshot pasted into a message or a deck almost always is. The device frame is optional in the export.
Can I export a long email?
Yes. The download dialog offers the whole thread at its true height, one screen, or fit-to-content, so a long message is not cropped at the fold.
Is there a watermark?
Free downloads carry a small SIMULATED · socialmock.com label at 1× resolution; Pro removes it and unlocks 2× and 3×. You can also switch the label on yourself — worth considering for anything that could be taken at face value, and a fake email very much can.

Use these responsibly

Everything made here is simulated. SocialMock has no connection to Gmail and cannot read, send or alter a real message. Do not use a mockup to impersonate anyone, pass it off as a genuine screenshot, or present it as evidence in any legal, workplace or academic matter — see our Acceptable Use policy. For general information about legal risk, read is it legal to fake a screenshot? If you publish somewhere a viewer might mistake it for real, switch on the “Simulated” label before exporting.
